I have developed another website with regards t gardening in Woodend, I have done this because anyone coming from Melbourne (or anywhere else for that matter) will find gardening, well!!! just a bit different here due to the different kind of climate. I have already found that some veggies that grow well in Melbourne suburbs, are hopeless here. I have also a page of building stuff yourself cheaply, even if you cannot do what I have done, it may well give you inspiration and I look forward to any info or tips you could give me and I will publish on my Veggie site.
here is the link.

What a great article to come across!! We lived in the western suburbs of Melbourne all our lives (we’re only 34, so not that long really!); Avondale Heights, Taylors Lakes, Sydenham etc.
We’ve been living in Perth for the last 3 years, and are just about to move back to Vic; Woodend to be exact!
Now that we’re going to have a little more space, we were thinking of growing our own veg; so this is just PERFECT!!
I heard we got a bit of snow in the winter just gone. I can’t imagine how that changes what can be grown there. (Don’t ask me how I’m going to cope with snow after living here for 3 years!!)
Welcome back to Woodend, the snow hasnt really laid on the ground, I look at what they grow in the UK and NZ and use that as a base.
